Cataloged as a National Monument since 1989, the Botanical Garden of Cienfuegos, the oldest in Cuba, invariably catches with its beautiful rarities and amazes those who choose it as a tourist destination. As a result, it annually receives more than 55,000 foreign visitors and is the preferred among the botanical gardens of Cuba.
Among its peculiarities can be seen:
- the largest bamboo collection in Cuba, and perhaps in Latin America (it includes the 28 most economically important species in the tropical belt)
- the last moments of existence of the Bambusa Polymorpha (original of Burma) that flourishes only once in his life, at 105 years, and then dies.
- the national palm of Sri Lanka, called Talipot or Corifa (Corypha umbraculifera), owner of the largest leaf in the universe (up to 7 m), flowers at 50 years of age and is the plant that gives more seeds in only parturition: two million and then he dies.
