AN ISLAND PASSIONATED BY THE ARTS GIVES EACH YEAR INTENSE PROGRAM OF CULTURAL FESTIVALS, PERENNIAL INVITATION TO THE ENJOYMENT OF DANCE, THEATER, MUSIC, FILM AND LITERATURE

It is precisely in the search for that spiritual harmony that every year local and foreign fans converge in Cuba, the island of catchy rhythms and vibrant colors. There is no sensitive soul that is oblivious to what happens on the Island throughout the year.

For those who appreciate the rigorous good art of dance, the best opportunity to enjoy it is during the Alicia Alonso International Ballet Festival. With more than 50 years of history, the hitherto known as the Havana Ballet Festival attracts many of the best dancers in the world, who participate together with the artists of the National Ballet of Cuba in the functions and master classes

If the seventh art is about, every December Havana is filled with moviegoers, directors, actors and actresses, in the fascinating show that the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema brings. From the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States, the organizers foresee the increase of North American participants, attracted by the know-how of the filmmakers from the south of the continent.

No less important has become the delivery of the Poor Film Festival of Gibara, a charming sea town on the coast of Holguin. Directed on this occasion by the famous actor and film director Jorge Perugorría, Gibara’s appointment seeks to defend a cinema made with modest resources, but with a high cultural commitment, in jealous respect for the legacy of the unforgettable Humberto Solás.

For those who have been seduced by the Cuban rhythms and the virtuosity of their musicians, the Cubadisco International Fair is the thermometer of what happens in the regional record industry. Considered the most important commercial and musical exhibition of the Island, Cubadisco brings together composers, musicians and producers every year, in forums, conferences, master classes and, above all, in a very varied program of concerts.

As for classical and contemporary music, the most recent project of the virtuoso guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer, the Les Voix Humaines Festival (Las Voces Humanas), promises to become an inevitable meeting point for renowned figures of the world pentagram.

For its part, the Jazz Plaza Festival, with 30 editions in its history, brings together world-class Cuban and foreign musicians every year. During those days the city is filled with fans, who enjoy concerts, downloads and theoretical meetings. Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis and Michel Legrand are just some of those who have harmonized Havana nights in the Jazz Plaza editions.
